Pokagon 2014

I'm finally getting around to posting our
pictures from Pokagon.  Better late than never!

Our 23rd year at Pokagon, though our first year with just
our immediate Sternberg family.  We missed our extended family, but it's
always so nice to be back.

It was the year of Andrew's dangling tooth - literally hanging on by a thread!  Indiana's tooth fairy had to make a special stop while we were there.

It is so special for me to now have my own family
at Pokagon.  They love it as much as I do.

First things first, the kids wanted to go swimming.

One milestone this year was Claire's new interest in the hot tub.

Grandma and George enjoy watching from the sidelines.

That evening, the kids exchanged their gifts with each other.
George loves his soft new teddy bear from Gracie.

Uncle Mike reads Andrew his new dragon book.

Grandpa and Ruby Jean

Claire was excited to give Grandma and Grandpa the
dancing reindeer she picked out for them.

Cuddling in bed with their new books.

And after the kids are in bed, the grown-ups get to play!

The next day, the kids bundled up for our annual hike to the Nature Center.

No snow this year!

Henry cuddles with Andrew, his cousin and best friend.

After a fun day of play, it was nice to unwind in our p.j.'s.
Uncle Mike and the kids even played Mall Madness.

Ruby gives George a big smooch.
His expression says it all!

Kelsey has little luck hiding from the camera.

Is it too much to ask that all 7 grandkids smile at the camera
simultaneously?  Good thing they're so cute!

Watch and learn kids.  After 23 years, the four of us
have perfected the toboggan picture.

On our way home, we stopped for lunch, where
the boys had fun climbing on Grandpa.

Two peas in a pod.

These pictures warm my heart.  There are so many great memories,
so much love and laughter, as we reflect on our time together at Pokagon.
What a gift for our family.  We're already looking forward to Pokagon 2015!

{ Christmas }

Christmas Eve

After our service at church, we let the kids open one special Christmas Eve gift.
Christmas pajamas, a nativity story book which we read, a classic Christmas movie, "The Snowman", and some snacks to eat while we watched it.
A fun new tradition.

Christmas Day

George woke up feeling festive, ready to celebrate his first Christmas!

Our annual Christmas morning family photo.
Henry was happy to have his Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker figurines included.

3. . . .2. . . .1. . . .let the gift giving begin!

Claire was so thoughtful to pick out gifts for each of us this year.
And she was excited to get the belt and watch she had been asking for.

Henry loved his Star Wars Trouble game and light saber.

How did George feel about his first Christmas?
He was very jolly.

Hope you all had a very merry day!

December

It's officially the final day of December.  And with all the busyness of the holidays, I just haven't had the chance to sit down and post our pictures.  So here they are in the nick of time! Our month in pictures.

Cuddling on a cool winter evening.

George and his buddy, Will, pose in their matching Christmas outfits.

Julie, Lily and Theresa came to my rescue one wonderful day earlier this month.  Not having had a chance to decorate, they came with their holiday gear to help me get our home ready for Christmas.

The kids picked out a perfect tree for us.

I love my sleeping baby.

Joe did a great job as narrator for our church's Christmas program.

And, of course, the kids did a great job, too.

Our little angel.

Great Grandma's Birthday!

Claire's School Christmas Program

Making gingerbread houses at the library.

Enjoying his expanding menu of fruits and veggies.

George and Sam Koopmans visit while their families had fun bowling.

Ready to roll.

Claire loves keeping busy in the kitchen.

Halloween {Past & Present}

2014

This was the year of "Frozen".  I tend to push back against the overly popular costume suggestions. And this year, Princess Elsa dresses were ubiquitous.  Despite that, it is the one day of the year that our kids can be whatever their little hearts desire.  And this year, Claire's little heart longed to be Frozen, and the boys were happy to play along.

George was dressed as Olaf, the snowman.

Henry was dressed as Kristoff, the mountain man.

And of course, Claire was dressed as Elsa.

Reading Halloween books with Daddy.

In the evening, Joe took the kids out Trick or Treating around the neighborhood while George and I stayed behind to pass out candy.

My Little Pumpkin

Returning with his stash.

But of course...once the kids were in bed, George couldn't resist snooping.
I think he has his eyes on those m&m's.

Another Halloween of Happy Haunting!

First bike ride of the year! And George's first time without training wheels! Such a champ! Enjoyed lots of bike rides during quarantine...
