January 31 is National Omphalocele Awareness Day.
To raise awareness, we wear black and white.
Omphalocele is a type of abdominal wall defect in which internal organs remain outside the abdomen. Omphalocele occurs in 2.5 out of 10,000 births and is associated with a high rate of mortality (25%) and severe malformations such as cardiac anomalies (50%) and neural tube defect (40%). Approximately 15% of live-born infants with omphalocele have chromosomal abnormalities. [Wikepedia]
Looking at those percentages, I am just in wonder at our beautiful, healthy boy. We were preparing for the worst but are grateful for the best. To God be the glory.
